“Always shoot with the sun behind you” A rule I heard often. Fortunately, rules are made to be broken. For as long as I can remember, I’ve felt drawn toward the light.
Golden Lining
That soft, low light at sunrise and sunset paints the world in yellow, orange, red, pink, and purple. A low-hanging sun outlines baby geese and young foxes with a shimmering golden edge. The golden hours live up to their name: everything turns to gold. Even the plainest patch of land or the clumsiest goose becomes beautiful in the early morning or late evening.
Everything is Better in Back-light
Put simply: shooting with the light shows what’s there. Shooting into the light lets you create your own fairy tale. Which, coincidentally, happens to be one of my very favorite things to do.
