Species: Pool Frog

Pool Frog (Pelophylax lessonae)

Often overlooked but wonderfully charismatic, the pool frog reveals its quiet charm in Roeselien Raimond’s tender portraits. This rare amphibian, captured in dreamy light and perfect stillness, is a hidden gem among Europe’s native species; a frog with personality, presence, and a surprising touch of poetry.

The pool frog (Pelophylax lessonae) is a European frog. It is one of only four amphibian species recognized by the UK government as protected under its Biodiversity Action Plan. The reasons for declining populations are decreased pond habitat from human encroachment and also air pollution leading to over-nitrification of pond waters.
