Black-crowned night heron in town
The black-crowned night heron is a relatively rare bird in the Netherlands. This one was fishing and I still wonder how he knew the fish were there, as the water was completely covered with green. Maybe he smells them? Or hears them? Or senses their movements?

Just like its heron relatives, such as the grey heron or the Eurasian bittern, it possesses this wonderful blend of elegance and clumsiness. I’m sure this species would easily win a Silly Walks contest!
