33. Chasing White Rabbits 12

cute rabbitFor some of my shoots, I thoroughly research my subject.
I feast of graphs and statistics and I adore facts and tidbits.
After all, knowledge is power, isn’t it?

I used to drive people crazy with my my perpetual “what, why, when, where and with whom….
Nowadays, I ask my patient, omniscient oracle Google, that tirelessly answers all my questions.
In case Google might have an off day, there’s always my loyal friend Wiki.

So when I unexpectedly stumbled upon a white bunny, I was eager to find out all about this somewhat extraordinary colored animal.

“Why is a rabbit white, in a country where it rarely snows?”
“Do white rabbits feed on radish instead of roots?”
“Is this a product of a dissolute mother rabbit and a fling with an outer-dune father …?”
“..or maybe a sort of freak of nature, similar to–let’s say- a pink grasshopper?”

As little factual information as I find, as many metaphors, legends and symbolic statements I meet.
While reading, I slowly but surely drift away from the familiar world of facts and I am sucked into a stream of dream interpretations, symbologies and totem animals.
Before know it, I find myself deeply dug in the intangible world of spirituality, myths, fables and religions.

Did I just think that a white rabbit is nothing more than a white rabbit?
Boy, was I wrong!

The white rabbit is a metaphor for the Truth.
The hunt for her is the hunt for the truth, which can never be found.
Just when you think you’ve got her, she disappears into a long, never ending rabbit hole and she’s gone.

That sounds like a good challenge to me.
No matter how deep that hole may be, I will find her, and I won’t rest until I catch her!

The white rabbit is a sign of the possibility of spiritual enlightenment and an encounter with the Divine.
The white rabbit symbolizes an invitation to step out of the ordinary life and the beginning of an extraordinary journey.

Not entirely sure if I’m actually in need of a guide to another world, I decide to pay this white guide a visit anyhow.
Let’s see how deep the rabbit hole goes!

It appears infinitely deeper than I had expected.
The white rabbit is literally everywhere.
It has always been there.
You just never noticed, because you weren’t receptive to it.
If you’re wondering whether I’m sunk a little too deep into that hole, judge for yourself:

Scotty, Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock already knew it, as did the Muppets.
In the famous Lost series, it was a matter between Jack and Locke.
In The Matrix, it was even an important guideline.
Not to mention the presence of the white rabbit in Super Mario 64, the work of magicians, the film Sherlock Holmes, the music of Marilyn Manson and of course the famous work of Lewis Caroll.

As I’m lying there, with the smell of fresh grass and mushrooms in my nose, looking at an alternately praying and smiling rabbit, surrounded by dancing color balls of light, I can’t help but think of Alice and while I feel like getting smaller, the click of my shutter is accompanied by the first notes of White Rabbit and I realize that I have finally found her….

One pill makes you larger
And one pill makes you small
And the ones that mother gives you
Don’t do anything at all
Go ask Alice
When she’s ten feet tall

And if you go chasing rabbits
And you know you’re going to fall
Tell ’em a hookah smoking caterpillar
Has given you the call to
Call Alice
When she was just small

When the men on the chessboard
Get up and tell you where to go
And you’ve just had some kind of mushroom
And your mind is moving low
sponsored links
Go ask Alice
I think she’ll know

When logic and proportion
Have fallen sloppy dead
And the White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen’s “off with her head!”
Remember what the dormouse said;
Feed your head
Feed your head
